What Message is the NHL Sending To Future Players?

Fighting, checking from behind, and boarding are acceptable standards of play in the National Hockey League. Starting back with the incident of Ty Dome the NHL has played favorites and ruled in such an unbalanced way its hard to decipher what is fair. Take Georges Laraque blatant boarding against Steve Downie. His hit was obviously malicious and intentional - what did he get a major penalty and a game misconduct. He should have been suspended. Officiating looks more like what team is sliding something under the table to the offical rather than true unbiased officiating.
Look what is happening at the lower levels of hockey. In the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League they suspended operations last week. Jamestown Vikings hockey players "vandalized a century-old Jamestown building in an alcohol-fueled rage early Thursday told police they mistakenly believed the building was owned by the man who ran their team and hadn't paid them in about two months." Their version of a lock out?
After what happened to Zednick, why hasn't the NHL mandated neck guards? Safety equipment in the sport should be a priority. Youth hockey looks up at the NHL players and say, they don't have to why do we? What about face masks on the helmets? The NHL players have come up through the ranks starting in youth hockey wearing the all the safety equipment. Why is it that when they get to the professional league the NHL does not mandate the same equipment? How many players have had sticks come up and do major damage?
All around in nearly every aspect of hockey, the NHL is sending out the wrong messages to the future hockey players. There is no respect for the game, respect for officials, respect for safety and they are teaching hockey is all about money rather than the love of the sport. It's time for the NHL to wake up.
