Humor is not a laughing matter. Sounds funny to say, but scientist have proven that in emotional pain and suffering to the depths of despair to tension filled arguments, laughter is not a joke. It is medicine. Recent studies have proven that laughter is the best medicine there is. Health care professionals have discovered that when tense discussions or arguments ensue the result can be raising of blood pressure. Conversely, research has shown that laughter actually lowers your blood pressure by trigger endorphins into being released. Medical studies have found that laughter therapy can not only defuse tension and stress in a person's body but it also can relax muscles, put more oxygen into your blood stream and slow the racing of your heart beat. All this from laughing.

When a person finds themselves in a stressful situation during a confrontation with another person, the immediate response is fight or flight. That is normal. The most abnormal reaction is to start laughing. Some researchers claim that following a laughter therapy plan daily will not only defuse an argument but it can actually drastically reduce the number of arguments a person has. The reason is the extra endorphins that are in the blood stream from laughing every day. Endorphins are known to cause positive effects on emotional and mental well being of people.

To practice laughter therapy all that is necessary is to laugh out loud for 15 minutes every day. It is suggested that as part of your morning ritual you laugh for 5 minutes. The art of laughing is simple once you have practiced it. People find it difficult to laugh for absolutely no reason, a simple ha ha ha into the mirror is a good start. Eventually you will have a spontaneous belly rolling laugh each morning with enough practice. It is suggested that this process be repeated mid day and again in the evening before bed.

In a study done at Mayo Clinic, one study has reported that even fake laughter will aid in breathing by disrupting your normal pattern. This disruption allows the brain to diffuse anger and tension as it is virtually impossible to maintain laughter and anger at the same moment. In ancient cultures the art of laughter has been used in practically every spiritual journey as a means to a more peaceful and serene life with out confrontation and drama. The truly amazing thing about laughter is that there are no known side effects. The longer you continue with laughter therapy, the more you will be amazed at the transformation that comes about. You suddenly realize that life does not have to be full of constant tension, stress, and confrontation.

A natural part of every being is to be happy and joyful, enjoying the moments of life and being completely free of stress, tension, and anxiety. You may think that laughter therapy is not a solution to arguments. The natural reaction for most females during these periods is to cry. Crying is essential as well to release anxiety that builds up. But everything in life must be done in balance. Happiness and joy can co exist within a relationship, even when it is being stressed.

The more you practice laughter therapy, the more you will discover the peace and happiness that everyone desires is not so far out of reach. That it actually exists within you already.

Not being a morning person I would not want to try and start my day with laughter, but I have found looking at the silly side of things makes life much more pleasant.
